Understanding Silver prices
Raw materials and production
Silver is a precious metal with high electrical and thermal conductivity. It occurs in silver-bearing ores and is also recovered during the processing of lead, zinc, copper and gold ores. Recycling supplements mine supply.
Applications and consumption
Electrical contacts, photovoltaic cells, brazing alloys and jewellery consume silver. These uses connect the metal to manufacturing and household purchases as well as investment. Industrial consumption and demand for bars or coins can therefore move differently.
What affects Silver prices?
Mine output, industrial orders, recycling flows and investment demand influence silver prices. Currency movements and interest-rate expectations can also affect trading. A change in base-metal mining may alter by-product silver supply even when silver demand itself is unchanged.
How to read Silver price today
This page follows Silver in COMEX. The price type is Futures contract, with values expressed in USD/oz troy. Compare quotations only after matching the product specification, unit, market and publication period. Changes in the chart describe the recorded series; they do not measure every transaction in the wider market. A local purchase may include freight, processing, taxes or dealer margins. Differences in quality or delivery conditions can therefore produce a different final cost even when the reference price is unchanged.
The latest dated observation is the reference available on this page. Trading holidays or publication delays can leave the displayed date earlier than today; this is not a live tick feed.
