Understanding Butane prices

Raw materials and production

Propane and butane are hydrocarbons separated during natural-gas processing and petroleum refining. They are commonly associated with liquefied petroleum gas, but LPG composition varies. Liquefaction allows these gases to be stored and transported under suitable conditions.

Applications and consumption

Household cooking, heating, industrial fuel and petrochemical production consume these products. Propane and butane have different physical properties, which affect use and seasonal blending. A quotation for one component should not be assumed to represent every LPG mixture.

What affects Butane prices?

Refinery output, gas-processing supply, shipping, weather and chemical demand influence prices. Seasonal fuel requirements can change the balance between components. Composition, delivery location and quotation units explain differences between LPG, propane and butane market references.

How to read Butane price today

This page follows Butane in Saudi Aramco CP — JGE publication. The price type is Monthly contract price, with values expressed in USD/t. Compare quotations only after matching the product specification, unit, market and publication period. Changes in the chart describe the recorded series; they do not measure every transaction in the wider market. A local purchase may include freight, processing, taxes or dealer margins. Differences in quality or delivery conditions can therefore produce a different final cost even when the reference price is unchanged.

This is a monthly series. Its latest value belongs to the displayed publication month; a monthly average, settlement or contract reference is not an intraday price today.
