Understanding Zinc prices

Raw materials and production

Zinc is a nonferrous metal extracted from zinc-bearing ores and recycled materials. Concentrates are processed and refined before metal is used in manufacturing. Zinc coatings help protect steel against corrosion.

Applications and consumption

Galvanised construction products, vehicle parts and infrastructure consume zinc. The metal is also used in brass alloys, die casting and chemical compounds. Demand is linked to both steel fabrication and the manufacture of household and industrial goods.

What affects Zinc prices?

Mine and smelter output, electricity costs, construction demand and steel-coating activity influence zinc prices. Recycling and inventories can ease or tighten supply. Coating thickness, product grade and delivery location affect the cost faced by downstream buyers.

How to read Zinc price today

This page follows Zinc in LME · London. The price type is Monthly average, with values expressed in USD/tonne. Compare quotations only after matching the product specification, unit, market and publication period. Changes in the chart describe the recorded series; they do not measure every transaction in the wider market. A local purchase may include freight, processing, taxes or dealer margins. Differences in quality or delivery conditions can therefore produce a different final cost even when the reference price is unchanged.

This is a monthly series. Its latest value belongs to the displayed publication month; a monthly average, settlement or contract reference is not an intraday price today.
