Understanding Tin prices

Raw materials and production

Tin is a relatively soft metal commonly refined from cassiterite ore and recovered from recycled materials. Its corrosion resistance and low melting point make it useful in coatings and joining applications.

Applications and consumption

Solder for electronic assemblies, tinplate for packaging and chemical products use tin. The electronics sector links consumption to household devices, industrial equipment and circuit-board production. Small amounts of tin can perform an essential function in a finished product.

What affects Tin prices?

Mine output, refining capacity, electronic manufacturing and recycling flows influence tin prices. Supply disruptions can matter because production is concentrated in a limited number of regions. Changes in solder composition and packaging demand also affect consumption.

How to read Tin price today

This page follows Tin in LME · London. The price type is Monthly average, with values expressed in USD/tonne. Compare quotations only after matching the product specification, unit, market and publication period. Changes in the chart describe the recorded series; they do not measure every transaction in the wider market. A local purchase may include freight, processing, taxes or dealer margins. Differences in quality or delivery conditions can therefore produce a different final cost even when the reference price is unchanged.

This is a monthly series. Its latest value belongs to the displayed publication month; a monthly average, settlement or contract reference is not an intraday price today.
