Understanding Aluminum prices

Raw materials and production

Aluminium is commonly produced by refining bauxite into alumina and then using electricity to obtain metal. Recycled aluminium provides a second supply route. The metal combines low density with useful corrosion resistance.

Applications and consumption

Transport components, beverage cans, packaging, electrical conductors and building products use aluminium. Alloy composition changes strength and fabrication behaviour. Demand therefore depends on both the volume of finished goods and the grade required by manufacturers.

What affects Aluminum prices?

Electricity prices, alumina supply, smelter operating rates and scrap flows influence aluminium costs. Vehicle production, construction and packaging demand affect consumption. Regional delivery premiums, transport charges and alloy specifications can make a physical quotation differ from an exchange benchmark.

How to read Aluminum price today

This page follows Aluminum in LME · London. The price type is Monthly average, with values expressed in USD/tonne. Compare quotations only after matching the product specification, unit, market and publication period. Changes in the chart describe the recorded series; they do not measure every transaction in the wider market. A local purchase may include freight, processing, taxes or dealer margins. Differences in quality or delivery conditions can therefore produce a different final cost even when the reference price is unchanged.

This is a monthly series. Its latest value belongs to the displayed publication month; a monthly average, settlement or contract reference is not an intraday price today.
